Senior Data Engineer, Center for an Informed Public

The University of Washington’s Information School (iSchool) is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to work within the Center for an Informed Public (CIP) who will be responsible for building data pipelines and maintaining data infrastructure – with an interest in supporting cutting edge research in a societally critical field. This opportunity is ideal for someone with a broad background in technology who enjoys working across different kinds of tasks to meet the needs of diverse researchers. An ideal candidate should have experience working with “big” data, particularly social media data.

The CIP is a collaborative research center that brings together faculty, staff, students, and community partners in service of a core mission to resist strategic misinformation, promote an informed society, and strengthen democratic discourse. A core objective of the CIP is to provide computational and methodological support to diverse researchers working on these problems. The Senior Data Engineer will assist students, research assistants, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty with their research by collecting and providing data in response to regular, periodic, and ad-hoc requests; by understanding what established data sources provide; and how best to use available data to meet their described research needs.

This position is integral to the research mission of the Center but is not a direct research position. The primary responsibilities will be supporting others’ research. However, the senior engineer may have the opportunity to contribute to published research in ways that warrant authorship.

In the Information School (iSchool) there is an expectation that all faculty and staff will step up where they see an opportunity to apply their special expertise or talents, speak up when they identify opportunities or concerns, and lead by taking actions that exemplify the iSchool’s core values.  Leadership within the iSchool is expressed in diverse ways reflecting the variety of styles and cultures that are represented by our faculty and staff.

This position is open until filled with a preferred deadline of Sunday, March 20, 2022.
